Rapid access chest pain clinic

Warning

Nurse led Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic (RACPC) is for people with suspected angina. As soon as referral has been received with accompanying information and it is deemed appropriate, the clinic will aim to review within 5 working days.

Who to refer, who not to refer, how to refer

Who to Refer:

  • Patients who have a history of Suspected angina of new onset or have had a recent deterioration in previously stable angina.
  • Patients without significant valvular pathology.

This clinic is not suitable for patients with unstable symptoms. Consider admission.

Consider cardiology clinic if patient has a heart murmur or valvular heart disease. RACPC does not have access to same day echo.

Please do not refer patients with non-cardiac sounding chest pain. i.e non-exertional and does not respond to rest or GTN spray without discussing over the phone first.

How to Refer:

Via SCI-Gateway RACPC form and attach 12 lead ECG.

Alternatives to referring phone BGH 01896 826550(direct line) or 01896 826000, ask for bleep 6550 if you wish to discuss before referring.

 

Primary care management

Please document findings from full cardiovascular and respiratory examination including documentation of any abnormal heart sounds +/- heart murmur

12 lead ECG must be included with referral.

Baseline bloods including Fasting lipid profile/glucose, FBC, TSH, U and E, LFT  (No older than 3 months from referral)
